Hat tip to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Earlier this month, Forbes published an article explaining how MoDOT is meeting its goal to save Missouri taxpayers $500 million over five years. It’s a big goal, but MoDOT is already 70 percent of the way there.
A big part of this savings — $100 million — came from the agency’s decision to shut down sections of two major highways that needed to be rebuilt. MoDOT used social media to help make it easier for drivers to cope with the closures.
“Rather than take eight years to rebuild them while keeping two lanes open and have workers in danger, we decided to give our residents mobile maps and apps to maneuver them around the freeway,” Mike Miller, MoDOT’s assistant information systems director said.
