Destination Safe Coalition members honored for efforts to promote safe driving

The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety recognized two members of the region’s Destination Safe Coalition at its Blueprint to Save More Lives Conference last week.

William “Rusty” James, with the Kansas City Scout Incident Management Program, received an Arrive Alive Award for his leadership in reducing fatalities. Through coordination and planning between first responders, James has reduced clearance time of major incidents by 113 minutes. And secondary crashes have been reduced by 67 percent through advanced warning alerts, dynamic message boards and increased communication between emergency personnel.

ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City received a Show Me Safety Award recognizing its Young Traffic Offenders Program. This six-hour program held at a local trauma center walks young traffic offenders through the path of a crash victim.

Destination Safe is an award-winning partnership of local, regional, state and federal partners in Kansas and Missouri that work together to improve transportation safety in the Kansas City area, in cooperation with Kansas and Missouri statewide safety campaigns.
